Funeral Benefit
The company pays the insurance premium for the funeral benefit on your behalf. While you are employed by the company, as a member of the Fund and under normal retirement age, or if you are a disability member, the following amounts are payable towards the cost of a funeral:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Guardrisk Life Ltd (“Guardrisk”) offers a funeral benefit for all permanent TFG Employees.
- There is no waiting period for death. Both natural death and accidental death will be covered immediately from the starting date of cover, which is the date when this benefit is taken up.
- This benefit is only available to permanent employees and is not available to TFG pensioners, Deferred Retirees, Deferred Pensioners or weekly paid employees of Prestige Clothing (Pty) Ltd.
- Child: An unmarried child, age 21 and younger. This includes a stepchild, a natural child, a legally adopted child or a still born child (from the 26th week of pregnancy). Only 2 (two) stillbirth claims will be accepted while the benefit is in force.
- The age of 21 is extended to 25 if the child is a full-time student, at a recognised institution.
- The age of 21 is extended to death if the child is mentally disabled or becomes totally and permanently disabled before he/she turns 21.
- Spouse: your legal husband, wife or civil union spouse or a person that you are in a permanent relationship with and share a permanent home with, for a continuous period of at least 6 (six) months.
- Cover cease upon normal retirement age.
This benefit ceases at resignation, dismissal, retrenchment or retirement. It is also not applicable to members who have passed their normal retirement age. | |
The funeral benefit is underwritten by Guardrisk Life Limited, an authorised financial services provider (FSP No. 76) and a licensed insurer in terms of the Insurance Act 18 of 2017. Please click this link for information regarding the underwriter. |
Additional Voluntary Funeral Benefit
Eligible permanent monthly employees may take out the Guardrisk Life Limited Insurance Additional Voluntary Funeral Assurance benefit, whilst you are employed by the company and under normal retirement age, the following additional amounts are payable towards the cost of a funeral:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Guardrisk Life Ltd (“Guardrisk”) offers an additional voluntary funeral benefit over and above the benefits currently available to employees.
- There is a 3 months waiting period for natural death from the starting date of cover, which is the date when this benefit is taken up. This means no claim will be payable if natural death occurs within this waiting period. There is no waiting period for accidental death, which will be covered immediately.
- This benefit is only available to permanent employees and is not available to TFG pensioners, Deferred Retirees, Deferred Pensioners or weekly paid employees of Prestige Clothing (Pty) Ltd.
- Children younger than 6 years cannot exceed the maximum benefit limit of R20 000 across all Guardrisk plans, and the benefit for children younger than 14 and older than 6 years cannot exceed the maximum benefit limit of R50 000 across all Guardrisk plans.
- Child: An unmarried child, age 21 and younger. This includes a stepchild, a natural child, a legally adopted child or a still born child (from the 26th week of pregnancy). Only 2 (two) stillbirth claims will be accepted while the benefit is in force.

- The additional voluntary funeral benefit will not be paid if death is directly or indirectly caused by or attributable to suicide during the first 12 (twelve) months from the starting date of cover.
This benefit ceases at resignation, dismissal, retrenchment or retirement. It is also not applicable to members who have passed their normal retirement age. |
New employees who want to take out this Additional Voluntary Funeral Assurance benefit must do so within 3 months of joining the company. Alternatively, they will need to wait until the next renewal period, which takes place each January. Membership may also only be cancelled at the renewal date, which takes place each January. |
